Sumedha Srilakshmidaran, Former Staff Writer, Class of ‘27

UTD's Undergraduate Law Review fosters a community of like-minded students united by a common goal: initiating meaningful conversations that analyze and interpret legal developments. At UT Dallas, the ULR board excels at providing thoughtful guidance through every step of the publication process, empowering legal writers of all backgrounds to feel confident in producing high-quality, impactful arguments. Each board member invests significant time, effort, and resources into the articles to ensure the best possible outcome.

UTD's Law Review helped me refine my legal writing skills and taught me how to analyze, reason, and argue with clarity and purpose. The organization's impact extends beyond pre-law students and fosters critical thinking, sharpens communication, and encourages collaboration — skills essential across any academic or professional field. I am grateful to have been part of such a supportive and intellectually engaging organization that helped me gain a deeper understanding of our world through a legal lens.

Zohaib Shahid, Former Staff Writer, Class of ‘25

My experience at the UTD Undergraduate Law Review was one of the most meaningful academic experiences of my undergraduate career. As a staff writer, I elevated the quality of my writing, and dug deeper to acquire a greater grasp of topics I was most passionate about. While given the opportunity to contribute my own pieces, particularly in international law, I also received valuable peer review and advice from my editors. Furthermore, the writing and revision process shaped by UTDULR enabled me to sharpen my legal reasoning, develop my voice, and think like a legal scholar. I'm incredibly proud to have been a part of UTDULR's inaugural volume and am looking forward to seeing its continued growth.

Dr. Erin Kelley

I very much enjoy working with the UTDULR students and have been doing so since the beginning with the founder and previous editor, Zachary Thomas.  Many ULR students take my class, so I like collaborating with them on a regular basis.  I helped Zachary create a research assignment last year, but I am enjoying witnessing how the organization is growing and evolving on its own.  I have found that ULR writers, editors, and board members are also extraordinary student-leaders, and I am here to help as much as I can.

I try to connect class concepts and assignments with as many ULR projects that I can, and I even have an extra credit assignment for students who want to write for, who currently write for, or who edit for the ULR.  If interest continues to grow and there is eventually enough enrollment for an Advanced Legal Research and Writing Class, I plan to include a Law Review or similar article in the curriculum and as one of the assignments.
